WHO WE ARE

The Non profit Civil Association “LLANQHASUNCHIS WAWANCHISQUNAPAQ (Let´s work now for our children)”, is an organization created to support our children and their families. We focus our work in two communities. The community of Ancaschaca is located 3 hours away from Cusco´s city by rural truck transportation (fastest way to get there). Chitapampa community is one hour away from the city, using the same transportation. They are both part of the Province and region of Cusco, with an approximate altitude of between 3,600 masl and 4,030 masl (Andes of Peru).

In this area of Peru the conditions of living are precarious; people need services such as water, drain, or electricity. Streets and roads are not paved and public transportation is not found in the surroundings.
Children spend their childhood working with their parents, while others must move to Cusco´s city to study elementary and High School, and find a way of living.

Since the communities´ foundation, the effort of the local people has contributed to the installation of basic services such as electricity and public illumination of the streets and houses, providing drinkable water and drains. All this communal work has been done based on how the community´s ancestors, the Inkas, already did it. This type of work is called Minka (in Quechua language), collective work with a common benefit for the community. However, not all families have profited from these services, as the installation costs and monthly bills don´t always allow it.

Regarding the access roads, as Ancaschaca is not situated on a commercial road, public transportation is inexistent to reach it. However, Chitapampa community is accessible, since it is physically closer to the highway.

Ancaschaca community has only one elementary school, which doesn´t have enough teachers. High School is not available in the community, so students have to walk to the closest community or leave their homes to study in Cusco´s city.

These children also face problems inside their own families, including verbal and physical abuse. Alcoholism is also a very big problem cause. These issues are not being tackled by any public or private institution, so it is our intention to do something about it!.

OUR OBJECTIVES:

Develop social skills, health, education and training activities to contribute to the integral development of the children and teenagers of our highland communities, whom are in a situation of social risk.

1. Development and fostering of social abilities;

3. Promoting the responsibility of taking part and helping in the educational process of children and teenagers amongst the families, schools and community, contributing to the prevention of school absenteeism and to the reintegration into the educational system;

4. Developing procedures for teenagers to become leaders in their society, offering them the chance to express their ideas to the civil society represented by public and private organizations in Cusco, Peru and foreign societies.

5. Buying or renting a house in Cusco, which will serve as a refuge and feeding place for the children from our communities who are studying and working in Cusco, as well as for their parents when they them in the city.

2. PROMOTION: we will create space for meetings and talks between adults and children by resorting to special activities , during which they will share not only knowledge, but also communication experiences as a family (parents and children), contributing to their integration within their own family and in society, enforcing their capacities inside and outside the community.
